Secretary of State for Scotland meets local MP and Council leader to discuss Tay Cities Deal

Luke Graham, MP for Ochil & South Perthshire, and Perth & Kinross council leader, Cllr Murray Lyle, welcomed the Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, to Perth to discuss the upcoming Tay Cities Deal.

Following the signing of the £90m Stirling & Clackmannanshire City Deal earlier in the day, Mr Graham and Cllr Lyle were keen to ensure the Tay Cities Deal remains at the centre of the UK government’s thinking in the coming months as they finalise the deal.

Last November, Luke Graham MP welcomed a cross-party delegation of representatives from across the associated regions to Westminster. During the visit, Mr Graham organised for the delegation to meet with Treasury and Scotland office officials.

The Tay Cities Deal is multi-regional investment project which seeks to secure significant, transformational funding into the Perthshire, Tayside and Angus regions. Today’s meeting with the Secretary of State was an opportunity to ensure challenges and opportunities of the Deal were raised and addressed at the very highest levels of government.

The proposal for the deal is expected to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds and includes major investment into projects in Kinross-shire and across Perthshire.

Commenting after the meeting, Luke Graham said:

‘I was delighted that Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, could join us here in Perth to discuss all the important projects and investment opportunities we have here.

We must now secure commitment from various government bodies to ensure significant funding for our part of Scotland. Today's meetings with key decision makers was a crucial part of the City Deal process.’
